Understanding Water Baptism
Water Baptism is an important step of obedience in our discipleship to Jesus.
Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, _______________ them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and _______________ them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Acts 2:41 “Those who accepted his message were _______________, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”
What Baptism Means:
Romans 6:3-4 3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been __________ into Christ Jesus have been baptized into __________? 4 Therefore we have been ___________ through baptism into death, so that as Christ was ________ from the dead through the glory of the Father, so ___________ might walk in newness of life.
Baptism is a step of obedience in which those who have put their faith in Jesus express their union with Him in His death, burial and resurrection. When you are baptized, you are
showing that you have died to your old life (going under the water) and have been raised to a
new life in Christ (coming up out of the water).
Who Should Be Baptized?
Acts 8:36-38 “As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?’ And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip _______________ him.”
Acts 2:38 “Peter replied, ‘_______________ and be _______________, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.'”
Every person who has believed in Jesus Christ should be baptized in water!
